Tim Yakteen has had five weeks to find the 5 3/4 lengths that separated his colt Secured Freedom from Proletariat, the runaway winner of the Oceanside Handicap at a mile on opening day of the current Del Mar meet. They meet again Aug. 23, in the $300,000 Del Mar Derby (G2T). “I’ve been trying to figure that out,” Yakteen said one morning this week between training sets. “The question is, if that horse can continue to carry his speed the extra distance.
